Alaw Glesni-Griffiths is an autobiographical artist largely specialising in textiles and rug making. Her work is a response to her experiences as a woman, mother, and single parent.
Working with textiles Glesni-Griffiths aims to create a discussion around Textile's place in art history and working towards the reclassification of 'fibre crafts' as fine art in order to properly credit the lost women of Art History.
Based on her own experiences as a mother she aims to bring to light the joys and hardships of solo parenting while juggling an education and career. Her work reads as a timeline of self development and self discovery in the reclamation of her identity after motherhood.
Glesni-Griffiths' practice is best summarised in three words: poetic, political, and personal.
